News Round Up – Thurs. 7/21/11

Suspicions are rising that there is more to the Leiby Kletzky story than is currently being reported, with allegations of cover-ups, Shomrim interference and a possible history between victim and murderer.

Some feel that the rush to produce graphic memorial songs in the days after Leiby’s murder is a little inappropriate. The etiquette masters of Borough Park, well versed and practiced in subtle, intricate social rules, are sure they don’t know what those critics talking about.

Rabbi Avi Shafran, director of public affairs at Agudath Israel of America, praised Hamodia’s restraint in covering the murder. “Events may be important,” he told reporters, “but grisly details are seen as unseemly to write about…And what’s more, children read such papers too and there is a haredi reluctance to expose young kids to such details.” I mean, let those kids have their genitals fondled by members of the community that Shafran’s organization protects, but don’t, god forbid, expose them to grisly details.

In other news of the Orthodox community rushing to protect innocent children, a Melbourne Chabad Yeshiva is in the spotlight for allowing an accused molester continued access to students, as well as protecting another molester connected with the school.
