A New Kind of Umbrella

By Danny Saunders · January 13, 2010 · Around Town

Overheard at Masbia Borough Park:

Chasidish man with clipboard to a buddy: S’iz geferlich. Far yede ein yid, hub ich gehat nein goyim.

So much for the kindness extended to all. It’s a new definition of geferlich, though. My grandmonther used to say: geferlich is when you swallow an umbrella and it opens up inside. Is feeding goyim as bad as swallowing an umbrela? Food for thought.

You’d have thought they’d say “Boruch Hashem, there is only one hungry yid for every 9 goyim”!

On the other hand, had they said that, we’d excoriate them for that.

“It is not well to take the bread of the children and cast it to the dogs.”
