Borsalinos are the new skinny jeans for NY hipsters, NYTimes reports. Unanswered: do Williamsburg trend-setters bend their brims up or down? Mordechai Rubinstein, who claims to be a former yeshiva student and a men’s wear blogger, says: ““A Borsalino is one of those classic pieces of men’s wear that every man should own.” Then again, he’s also told New York Magazine :“I see too many guys without their heads covered — it’s freezing out.” You can take the chabadnik out of Crown Heights….
Chasidim are hitting cyclists with cars on Bedford Avenue. After lobbying city government to remove a bike lane, local chasidim feel that any remaining bikers traveling through ‘their’ neighborhood can be discouraged from continuing their routes by any means necessary. Worse, cyclist Christine Sandoval was grabbed by the arm by a chasidic driver. How will his kids ever get a shidduch, after he was seen fondling a shiksa?
Chasidim Simon and Chana Taub have finally been granted a divorce, after six years of newsworthy wrangling. The couple is famous for their excessive tsnius (they built a permanent mechitza down the middle of their house). Ms. Taub is not pleased with the judge’s decree that their house be sold as part of the divorce judgment. “It’s impossible that the judge should want to throw me out on the street,” she complained. With Mr. Taub ordered to pay her $1.5 million as well as $6,000 a month alimony, she should be able to afford a pretty shtaty cardboard box on the curb.
There’s been a dramatic rise in the number of children living in poverty in England – charedi kids that is. Goyish kids are doing fine. A new report warns of “considerable damage” that could occur in the community due to overcrowding, lack of family planning, and decreased government support. The report suggests that charedi men should be encouraged to “develop the skills they require to go out and find work.” Silly goyim. Don’t they know Hashem will provide? That’s why He created welfare.
